A Short Word From Us.

Now we know that there are a lot of folks that may take offence to listing their home on a site called Cheap Homes. After all it's hard to think of your home as cheap. We understand that there are years of emotion and tons memories that go with some of these homes. Some of you have lived in these places for generations. Others have put nothing but pride and energy into these homes. But the fact of the matter is, Cheap Sells. In today's world, everyone seems to be looking for cheap and free. To our way of thinking, when you can buy a home for less than a new car, that's cheap. Case closed. Thus the name....Cheap Homes. Another way of looking at it is this: If your the seller and you want less than $50,000 for your house, put your self in the BUYERS shoes. Ask yourself "Where would I look on the net for an affordable house?"

So what's the idea behind this site?

Well I'll tell you. A few years ago an Uncle of mine decided that after 50+ years of living in the same small town in Saskatchewan, it was time to make a move. He put his small house up for sale and got $2500.00. That's right!! Two Thousand, Five Hundred dollars!! This was a house of about 600-700 sq.ft. 2 bedrooms, with a basement, a single car garage, had all the services of water, sewer, power, telephone, natural gas heat and sat on 3 town lots. Think about this for a moment... you can hardly buy a lift of plywood for that kind of money. So, anyways, after looking around I found that this was not an isolated case, there are litterly hundreds of these deals out there. ( I saw a house listed a while back for a measly $500.00). Town lots for a dollar are not unheard of. Why are they so cheap? what's wrong with them? In most cases there is nothing wrong with them. It's just that most of these homes are in small farming towns, or mining and lumber towns gone bust with very limited work, or no work at all. These homes are advertised for those who are starting out or for those who are ready to retire. Well that's all well and good, but, what about those out there who are starting over. With government cutbacks and corporate downsizing there is a large growing trend in people who are joining the ranks of becoming telecommuters. You know, those who do their work at home via the internet. And a lot of these are folks that would rather work less and live more. With the technology today, all that is needed is power and a phone line. It really doesn't matter where you live. You can buy a place and be mortgaged for life, or pack up your laptop and live a bit of easy street.

You could buy one of these cheap homes and just live in it. Or maybe fix and paint it up and resell it. You may even make a few bucks. I've even seen a few sell on e-bay. Or how about this...sell the house you got now, pocket the cash, buy one of these, start your own business with the money left over or just take life a little easier. Always wanted to pursue another interest or travel a bit? Here's your chance. You may even want to try to speculate on one of these homes. Buy a couple and rent a few out. With today's mortgage rates it's hard not to go wrong. And the way the stock market is going, these may end up being a real little investment that pays a dividend. And if you find the winters are to harsh, you could still have enough cash to buy an RV lot in Arizona or some other warmer climate for those winter months.

Now these homes, and this style of life of course is not for everyone. But for those who are tired of the rat race and look forward to a slower pace of life without the high housing costs, property taxes and having to cough up your hard earned cash every time you turn around, this is definitely worth a look.
(oh yah....I almost forgot, most of these places have free down town parking).

About This Site.

In building this site, some of the things that came to mind was not only to get your home ad out into the market place, but to make the site as user friendly as possible.
That is why our menu size is larger than most. Easier to read and the ability to move about makes your stay a bit more enjoyable. To us there is nothing worse than a confusing site.(....with itty bitty print.)
We also understand that there are many who are not computer literate, but yet may wish to list their home here. In today's fast environment, we have decided to do a few things the old way. That is why there is no complicated online forms to fill out and nothing to download. We limited the size of graphics for faster site downloading for those on dial-up service. It's about as basic as you can get.
If you feel there is something missing or feel something could be changed, by all means let us know. We can be reached by clicking on the Contact Us page. There you will find out how to get a hold of us.
